Shooting Disciplines at SSAA Bathurst

Disciplines

SSAA Bathurst offers a diverse range of shooting disciplines, catering to enthusiasts of all skill levels. From precision rifle shooting, including smallbore and long-range target shooting, to pistol competitions that test accuracy and speed, there's something for everyone. Our hunting and field shooting programs focus on developing practical skills for ethical and responsible hunting, while shotgun sports provide exciting opportunities for clay target and practical shooting events. Whether you're training for competition, refining your marksmanship, or simply enjoying the sport, SSAA Bathurst provides a safe and welcoming environment for all disciplines.

Benchrest (Centrefire & Rimfire)

Benchrest is a precision rifle shooting discipline, using 8 sturdy concrete benches for maximum stability while aiming. Shoot at paper targets on timber frames, up to 100m away. Great for sighting-in your rifle, and practicing your accurate shots.

Prone

Prone shooting allows the greatest stability by firing while laying down. A custom-built stage provides undercover shooting in all weather, at paper targets up to 100m away. Best shooting position for extreme long range shots.

Off Hand

Off-Hand is one of the most challenging rifle disciplines, by shooting entirely unsupported from a standing position. Adjustable baffles provide increased safety, when shooting paper targets up to 100m away.

Pistol (Centrefire & Rimfire)

Pistol shooting encompasses various handgun competitions, as well as practice shooting, at paper targets up to 25m away. Special events include using metallic silhouette targets.

Western Action

Western Action uses original or replica firearms that were commonly used in the Old West during the 1800s. This includes single-action revolvers, lever-action rifles and side-by-side shotguns without automatic ejectors.

5-Stand Shotgun

5-Stand Shotgun sees shooters compete for points by shooting clay targets that erupt from 6 numbered traps around the course. The traps are moved periodically to provide a unique set of flight paths for each competition.

Black Powder

Black Powder recreates the early days of firearms development, by allowing shooters to use antique and replica muzzle-loading firearms. Relive pivotal moments from military history with like-minded individuals.
